（砂拉越•詩巫）行動黨砂委員會宣傳秘書黃培根指出，吳春祥及魏家祥兩人互相攻擊是為了逞英雄，華教問題根本無法解決，行動黨對此感到遺憾。

他說，柏拉旺區州議員吳春祥所以槓上副教育部長拿督魏家祥，是因為州選要到了，華教問題只是借題發揮，兩人互相攻擊都是在逞英雄，華教問題仍懸而未決。

黃培根今早在新聞發佈會表示，我國獨立53年，華文教育問題非但沒有解決方案，反而越來越嚴重，如華校撥款及師資培訓等問題。

他說，行動黨認為，國陣領袖始終堅持一貫的單元教育政策，人聯黨加入國陣40年，州政府也從來沒有撥款給華校，試問人聯黨如何向華社交代？

他續稱，獨中文憑受到許多發達國家承認，唯有我國不承認，人聯黨及馬華應就此事向華社交代。

“我國華文教育由華社承擔，除了中國及台灣，我國華文教育可說是全世界最好的，不過這并不是國陣政府的驕傲。”

他說，國陣政府應該承認獨中文憑，善用華教人才，如此才能使大馬更具競爭力。

“我國華校栽培許多精英，馬來西亞之所以有今天，華校功不可沒，行動黨呼籲國陣公平對待每個人，馬上修改法令，把華教列入教育大藍圖，一勞永逸解決問題。”

诗巫要改变，砂州一定要改变，改变从诗巫开始！

回应人联领袖的“火箭有大把钱”言论

我们很遗憾人联领袖可以无所事事到连行动党怎样筹款都有话好说。黄顺舸说行动党是富有的，因为我们成功举办了200桌的总动员晚宴而人联党却从未办这么大的宴会。如果他所说是对的话，那么这也显示了人联在人民心目中的地位。行动党的晚宴一路来都是以卖票方式来举办的，人民出钱出力，自动自发来支持行动党，说明了行动党为人民斗争的政治理念是得到广大人民的支持。

难道人联领袖对这次补选已经没话好说和无事好做了吗？难道诗巫这样多的民生课题，发展问题，经济问题，教育问题，人才外流，年轻人无就业机会和资源分配不平衡的问题等等都不在人联领袖的议程里？这也难怪诗巫的发展是这么的落后和诗巫会从砂州第二大市镇变成第三，在不久将会从第三变成第四，这也说明为什么诗巫的人才外流是这么的严重和到现在诗巫是砂州唯一【零】大学的市镇，连木胶都不如。

今天人民要看到的是实事求是的政党和政党的施政方针，比如他们的土地政策，教育政策，经济政策，资源分配和良好施政的成绩单等等。人民将不会被政党在补选或选举时才发放糖果和一些大选时的政治承诺所蒙骗。如果人联还以为在补选时补路修路就可满足人民的要求和已经做到他们的责任，那么他们将会在516诗巫补选当天得到答案。

巫统领袖一而再，再而三的挑起敏感的种族课题，如“寄居论”、“华妇来马卖身论”、“华人不懂感恩“、”不可挑战土著特权“等等都已经伤害我们身为大马公民的感受和破坏我们大马多元文化社会的和谐以及挑战我国宪法给予我们每个大马公民的权益。而自称是华社保护伞的人联领袖有哪一次开腔来捍卫华社的感受和捍卫我们作为公民都有权力追求自由，公平，平等的机会和追求辛福的权利？相反的，我们只看到他们向行动党“开炮”和威胁选民来保住他们的官位和他们朋党的利益。

这次补选不是一场普通的补选，而是一场公投；是人民对国阵执政砂州47年来表现满意度和对砂州首席部长29年施政方针的满意度的公投。这次补选也是来届州选的前哨战，诗巫人民将会在这次补选向国阵政府发出强烈的讯息，诗巫要改变，砂州一定要改变，改变从诗巫开始！

最近大马的某大牌律师楼收到一个令他们头疼的委托信！他们漏夜开会怎样处理这件委托，可是还是不能决定。因为他们收到国内外的青蛙组织的委托去告大马的政治人物破坏他们的身誉，可是大马法律又没有哪个法令可以让他们代表动物去告人类！这次这间大牌的律师楼够尴尬了！可是我们的政治人物还不懂的惭愧呢，不信？去看看今天的政治新闻吧！

看来我们人类有的比禽兽都不如呢。我真的无言以对！

（本报诗巫24日讯）砂行动党宣传秘书黄培根指出，砂州要进步就必须脱离砂州国阵。
他强调，砂州拥有丰富资源，以及积极打拼的人民，所以只要在政治上做出改变，即在来届州至少达到三分一的议席，才有本钱与国阵谈判。
他于今早在该党召开的新闻发布会上就首相纳吉发表的“砂拉越是国阵的定期存款”言论，发表这番谈话。
他说，首相纳吉也曾表示沙巴是国阵的定期存款（堡垒区），有关话语让人民听了感觉很“酸”。
他表示，国阵得到砂州给予他们的利益，却不想回馈。砂州给国阵100%支持，如308选举时，西马国阵大输，砂州却赢得30个国会议席，而这也是国阵赖以为生的筹码。
“因此，当首相及部长发表砂州是国阵的定期存款，人民感到失落，虽然他们大力支持国阵，但究竟得到了什么？”
他续说，砂州提供全国三分一的天然气及汽油，对国阵做出莫大的贡献，包括我国财政的40%来自天然气及汽油，但是10多年以来，砂州究竟得到了什么？
他说，在第九大马计划下，联邦政府拨款190亿令吉，但根据数据显示，单是2008年，砂州的天然气及汽油已超过200亿。
黄培根表示，砂州是非常富有的地方，所以应得到更多回馈，但砂州的发展却落后西马20年，也没有看到国阵计划砂州发展，以跟上西马发展的脚步。
此外，对于首相公布拨款34亿令吉，提升砂州乡区发展，他认为，这不具任何意义，因为前首相阿都拉曾表示拨款10亿令吉，人民却不懂有关款项究竟用到何处。

砂州行动党宣教主任黄培根（右）与党内副 组织秘书卢增国站在灾区马路，发现水高近膝，而车子也浸了快半辆。 （本报诗巫16日讯）跑了4个水灾黑区，砂州行动党宣教主任黄培根 对灾区惨况看不下去了，他要问，政府宣布发放1亿3700万令吉给诗巫治水，但这些钱到底给了人民什么？ 他是在与党内副组织秘书卢增国及黄和联特别助理刘会文，齐去四个水灾黑区，即华侨路、林开臻路和阿婆罗路、幸运村、中兴小学路后，于今日发表了以下文告： 今天我和两个党同志，砂州副组织秘书卢增国和黄和联特别助理刘会文，我们在4个小时里跑了4个水灾黑区：1.华侨路；2.林开臻路和阿婆罗路；3.幸运 村；4.中兴小学路。 4个地方，同样问题，就是一雨成灾。几年来，能投诉的管道都投诉了，议员大人们的大门也上弓，就是没有任何的下文。有的说，没有经费，有的说“慢慢来”， 有的只是“应酬似”的回应。 到底人们的家有经过多少次的“水洗礼”，投诉多少次，损失多少钱财和经过多少日的提心吊胆，政府部门的高官和高高在上的议员大人们才会感受和体会到人民的 痛苦？ 今年，政府宣布发放马币1亿3700万令吉给诗巫来治水。这是纳税人的血汗钱，不是国阵高官的私藏钱！这笔钱，如果给我们在野党，是可以做多少的事情。挖 河床，建设新的洋灰排水系统、挖通阻塞的沟渠，确保任何发展计划都有良好的排水建设等等，都是国阵政府几十年来所忽略的基本设施问题。 一、在幸运村，那里有接近2000间房屋的地方，就没看到有任何的基本设施如排水系统。政府怎么可以这样的对待人民？虽然说是 settlement scheme，他们也有还门牌税和土地税哦，难道说政府歧视他们，就因为他们是中下阶层的家庭？一个马来家庭告诉我们，他们的住家在过去6年来，只要一下 雨就变成“池塘”，损失不少。理由很简单，就是他们的地方根本从一开始就没有排水沟和任何的排水系统。 遗憾的是，虽然说是“幸运村”，人民没有觉得任何幸运，因为那个地方一雨成灾，一到雨季，人民就提心吊胆。 二、林开臻路，是诗巫一条重要道路之一，可通往两间政府中学（2000多个学生），兰岛邦章造船厂（政府指定的地区），还有几千间私人房屋。是多么重要的 主要道路，可是每次都一雨成灾。诗巫的国阵宏愿队伍每次都说“发展、发展”，可是就只会给口舌服务，没有给诗巫一个像样的基本设施。 我在不久前，刚刚呼吁政府把这条路填高，好让人民可以在雨季时能够从容的出入。 三、在中兴小学和中学幼稚园后面的一条路，今天水高2-3尺！一个姓江的居民告诉小弟说一年多前，他已经告诉这边的州议员他们的困境，可是得到的答覆是 “没有经费”。他的屋子需要抽水机24个小时操作，就像一个“小荷兰”呢！ 灾民投诉说，他们已经不懂地怎样可以继续地居住下去，因为灾情一年一年的恶化。还有一个灾民投诉说，他在不久前申请水灾援助金还没被批准呢！ 四、华侨路，一个在市中心的路。一年到头都面对水患的困境。以前我爸爸的老家在那，我们不懂受了多少的罪。现在任何住在华侨，中华和那一带的人还是要继续 面对同样的问题，根本就不懂几时可得到解脱。 昨天的水患告诉市议会，他们在一些选择性的地方疏通部份的沟渠是不能解决问题的。所以还是请他们听取诗巫大部人民和社团的建议。拉让江的河床一天没有得到 处理，排水建设没有提升（洋灰的），阻塞的沟渠没有得到疏通还有最重要的是政府部门和人民代议士没有“以民为本”，那么我们诗巫人民就要永远的活在水患阴 影下。 行动党呼吁诗巫宏愿队伍马上解决诗巫的水患问题，不要有任何的推辞和借口。

柏拉旺区排水改善 3单位青团斥培根抹黑

(本报诗巫19日讯)人联党柏拉旺区的3个单位青年团今午发文告表示，该党柏拉旺区州议员吴春祥正在作出努力，改善该区的设施 与排水系统。 这3个单位，即新珠山分部、拉让花园事务所及女皇道事务所的青年团指出，该党柏拉旺区州议员吴春祥持续不断的在州议会中力争取改善柏拉旺区排洪设施，改善 排水系统及提升道路的努力是有目共睹的。 黄培根指责毫无根据 3单位青年团对于行动党黄培根毫无根据的指责感到遗憾，并对他抹杀人联党领袖的努力及取得的成果采取一贯的做法表示愤怒。 文告说，吴春祥的州议会的争取有记录在案，这不容许黄培根胡言乱语。 水患问题带入州议会 3单位青年团说，在甫召开的州议会上，吴春祥再次通过提问及口头谘询的方式，将柏拉旺区的水患问题带入州议会，黄培根所谓的吴春祥从没有将选区内的水患问 题，如林开臻路、中兴小学后面一带，幸运村等带入州议会的说辞，无疑是张着眼睛说瞎话，自唱自演。 在诗巫国阵宏愿队伍，包括吴春祥的力争之下，诗巫已经展开庞大的治水计划，其中包括890万的西端河疏浚工程，有关工程已经授予得标的承包商，而吴春祥在 1109召开的州议会中，再次促请政府尽速展开工程。 2排洪沟工程已展开 为了更有效的解决柏拉旺区的排水问题，吴春祥通过与诗巫水利灌溉局及诗巫市议会的合作下，两条主要排洪沟工程经已开展，同时，住宅区的沟渠也逐步的获得改 善。 排洪沟其一是由三区路开始，横越敦哈志奥本路，警察总署及双溪安都国盈板厂至伊干江，其二是英雄路通过万隆至伊干江。 敦再迪路建排洪沟 同时，在宏愿队的敦促之下，诗巫水利灌溉局刻在研究于敦再迪路兴建另一条排洪沟的可能性，以强化整个地区的水量排放系统。 在人联党各单位的努力之下，甚至柏拉旺区的小范围沟渠也受到重视，在今年7月份，拉让花园第九巷沟渠重建工程已经完成，居民长期以来所面对的排水问已迎刃 而解。 多条道路进行填高 在填高道路方面，德圣路支路安沙纳路及周边道路，于今年9月份已经填高，陈婆罗东路及周围巷道，在今年10月开始填高，且工程尚在进行中。 乌鲁双溪美拉路及实那路下沉的路段，在最近也已经填高。 林开臻路从兴建至今，已经填高了至少3次，修补的次数无法计算，其周围巷道也已经填高，这些事实不是黄培根片言只语所能抹杀的。 关于幸运村的水患问题，在今年内，吴春祥州议员多次的到访该区，并连同水利灌溉局及市议会的官员前往探讨解决水案，有关做法并非黄培根之流，稍微出现在幸 运村“比手划脚”所能够比拟的。 同时，在今年初，人联党新珠山分部、女皇道事务所、拉让花园事务所，为了更有效的解决柏拉旺区的民生问题，曾深入调查与研究道路及沟渠的情况，之后，更与 相关部门及专家研讨，鉴定了一雨成灾的主要原因，而排水系统出现问题更是焦点所在，那些需要维修的道路也一一列明，并拟成意向书，于今年5月份呈递予诗巫 水力灌溉局与诗巫市议会，要求尽速及积极的解决与改善。 人联党领袖在民生设施上所作出的努力，倘若不是黄培根根本不关心周遭的事务，就是他刻意扭曲事实，抹黑，意图挑动人民的情绪，以达致其自私的政治议程，这 也是如他之流所谓反对党领袖经常诉诸的一种行动，即作出无根据指控。 女性言論 耔橞要春祥道歉 砂拉越新闻 - 南砂 行動黨馬拉端區州議員陳耔橞將會針對吳春祥發表的所有言論，保留法律追 究權力。 （本報古晉14日訊）民主行動黨馬拉端區州議員陳耔橞今日慎重提醒砂人聯黨柏拉旺區州議員吳春祥，馬上停止侮辱女性來掩飾本 身在州立法議會睡覺之言論。 她同時披露，本身將會針對吳春祥發表的所有言論，保留法律追究權力，並將此事交由行動黨律師團處理與研究。 她在今日召開的新聞發佈會上聲言，吳春祥作為一個堂堂男子漢，無法面對在野黨州議員的指責，反之，以令人遐想和含沙射影的言論來回應，這根本是一種欺負和 歧視女性的做法。 “一個3歲小孩如果不懂尊重別人，還可原諒，但是一個五、六十歲的人，還不懂尊重別人，甚至不知廉恥，那是可恥。” 對此，陳耔橞要求吳春祥馬上收回極具詆毀性與侮辱性的言論，並且對他所發表的言論做出道歉。 此外，陳耔橞促請吳春祥自重，因為人民委派他進入州立法議會，不是去睡覺，而是去參政和問政 “身為州議員，如果在州立法議會內睡覺，應該道歉﹗”

The peole should be split for the betterment of the country?

I attended a political forum last night organized by the See Hua Daily news and the United Chinese Association. One of the speakers, Mr. Wong Chin Huat, a political activist, put across a very interesting view on how to serve the rakyat best, i.e. divided political parties and leaders serves the rakyat best.

His contention was backed by the political history of Malaysia from the 90s to post-308. Many were taken by his unconventional view but accepted his analysis. He stressed that during the 1990 general election, Umno was divided and suffered big set back while the MCA won handsomely because the Chinese thought they should not "hijack" the BN during UMNO's worst division but that did not do well for the Chinese community as UMNO became more radical and many Chinese interests were compromised in order for UMNO to regain its Malays' support. So the Malays gained while the Chinese suffered when the Malays were divided but the Chinese were united. That he says showed that the rakyat "gain" only when the political parties and politicians are divided.

If his political view is correct, his view that if the none bumis give 70-85 % support to the opposition and if 40% of the bumi were split from BN, then the Pakatan Rakyat would secure 106 out of the 165 parliamentary seats in west Malaysia and Sarawak and Sabah only need to give 9 more seats to the Pakatan Rakyat for it to enjoy the simple majority in the Parliament to rule.

But he stresses that if the Rule of Law is not observe, then the Perak's incident would be repeated because UMNO could seek to disregard the mandate of the people as it regards itself as the representative of the malays. He jokes that that is why he still wear black in defiance of the BN's coup in Perak.

I would have to agree that the BN has and will always call on the people to "unite" under it wings and threaten the people of the consequence of a divided UMNO or divided MCA or the divided SUPP. But as history has shown us, the more divided the politicians and political parties are, the more the people will gain/benefit as all will sought the support of the people as they will realize that they can't take the people for granted.

To support Mr. Wong Chin Huat's view, I would say that the check and balance in the political equation is the key to safe guard the interests of the rakyat and only with a 2-party or division of power would the check and balance be secured.

The Sarawak people should know that the SUPP has all these years threaten the Chinese community about the division of power which is actually to the contrary of the actual state of thing. The proof can be seen from the 1987 Ming court's affair that led to a snap election and while the Bumi votes were divided with the Permas winning 20 out of the 48 state seats and the balance of power hanging on the SUPP. What did the SUPP did with the Chinese community going behind them 100%? They did not bargain for the Chinese community but rather a few of its leaders sold off the support from the Chinese community in return for their own "interests". Issues such as the land issues, the mother tongue education, unfair allocation of government projects and intake of the Chinese in the state's departments and the oil and gas royalty should be on the bargaining table with the PBB but they were all forgotten and remained the central issues/ thorn in the fresh of the majority of the Chinese community.

I hope the above can bring awareness to the people, be them the Chinese, the Ibans, the Bidayuhs, the Penans or the Melanaus. The people should know how to capitalize or utilize the political parties to their interests and not let the political parties abuse and cone them into believing that a divided among the support would undermine the stability or security of the people and society.

My 2 sen worth but could it also be the "million ringgit answer" to the democracy of Malaysia? Let discuss further.

（本报古晋6日讯）行动党砂联委会主席黄和联表示，在2006年州选后，砂行动党就已成立影子内阁，以监督国阵政府的施政，并为执政之路做好准备。

同时，古晋国州议员张健仁表示，在行动党财政预算案中将废除乡区发展部，由其他部门掌管有关事务。

2500万拨华校教会学校

（本报古晋6日讯）民主行动党认同大马人口的多元种族特质，而且完全赞成独立合约，当中国民学校将可自由地成长和扩展。

不同国民学校的存在和成长并不会对国民团结起着阻遏作用，反而是国家的一项额外优势和强点。

民主行动党建议2010年财政预算案中提供以下事物：
1，在城市和市区割出5块土地供建造华文源流国民学校，而且每块土地面积至少有6英亩；
2，拨出1000万令吉资助州内华小董事部；
3，拨出1000万令吉资助州内华文中学的董事部；
4，拨出500万令吉资助州内教会学校的董事部。

该党认为，华校和教会学校拟定财政预算案建议，因为这些学校最受国阵政府忽略。

在308我们目睹了执政党在一夜之间丧失半壁江山、五州政权易手的惊人事实。不到一年的时间，我们看到霹雳州政权的戏剧性变化。206和506在我国政治史上堪称最重要的分水岭。个中发生的政治事件牵连了执政党、反对党、司法、行政（公务员、警方）和立法权的斗争，但是如果把事情简单化，整个事件的起因，就是——跳槽！

历来我国西马政治人物不乏跳槽举动。举例几个比较著名的，包括行动党的何文翰跳槽至马华，官至内阁部长，曾永森马华至民政再回到马华的草裙舞，沙巴团结党议员跳巢导致该党主政的州政府垮台等，以及牵连最广的霹雳州三剑客退出民联，成为亲国阵独立人士的跳槽事件。

纵观国内政治跳槽事件，绝大多数都是从反对党跳槽至执政党，或者在执政联盟内部更换政党。记忆中，国内只有一次显著的从执政党跳槽至反对党的现象，那就是安华在1998遭马哈迪革职后，安华的亲信和巫统党员大举退出巫统加入公正党或回教党的浪潮。从西马个别或集体跳槽原因加以分析，就会发觉起因总是围绕在几个主要的因素：不受主流派系接受而成为党内政治斗争的失败者，或者是以跳槽换取更好的政治权利。而且青蛙们对政治气候预测很有一手，选择跳槽的时机，都是风起云涌的政治环境，他们往往在那个时候是奇货，可以待价而沽。这样我们得出一个小总结，跳槽无关政治理念，而是利益关乎。

历来从行动党跳槽至马华的，不乏国会议员、州议员。他们都是有了一定党龄的行动党党员，也绝对不是政治初哥。不过，他们跳槽时往往忘记了行动党和马华在理念上有本质上很大的分别。行动党一路来的政治理念，莫过于贯彻“马来西亚人的马来西亚”，和马华党章“确保马来西亚宪法内华裔之合法权益和利益”何止南辕北辙。加盟马华无异典当一向来持有的政治理念，昔日在敌对政党争锋相对，不过加盟时却可以互相拥抱一笑泯恩仇。这个现实其实提醒我们，道德常常都必须让位于利益。

环顾国内政党，我们不得不对回教党的政治教育工作刮目相看。回教党是最为鲜少发生跳槽事件的西马国会反对党，党员拥有很强的向心力。我们尝试把这个现象分为两个阶段来解释。1980年代至2004年安华事件发生前后，回教党诉诸宗教意识来贯彻党内的政治教育以凝聚党员，结果回教党呈现给群众的是保守、宗教极端的面貌。2004年回教党在全国大选大败，掀起改革风，多名专业领袖打入领导层，取代以宗教师为班底而逐渐把回教党带入另一个新面貌——以回教为基础的中间温和路线——所谓的“埃尔多安集团”。回教党在308大选过后爆发党内路线之争，党主席哈迪倾向和巫统合作，欲走回马来民粹和宗教路线，不过立刻引来大多数党员的抨击而作罢。相比其他政党纯粹为了个人利益的斗争，回教党的路线之争相对就比较有建设性。我们看当回教党一党之首在欲脱离轨道与巫统合作时立刻受到党内的讨伐，相比之下，马华在蔡细历呛声跳槽时的处理方式就显得窝囊许多。平心而论，蔡细历采取的手段无异政治勒索，除了出发点是为了自己的政治前景，还绑架其他追随他的基层，以及把儿子押上作为政治赌注。这是一种很不负责任的行为。马华并没有勇气采取果断的手段来解决，反而劳烦巫统领导层开声理清蔡细历刻有的政治立场。华裔选民听在耳里，看在眼里，马华的软弱再一次展露无遗。曾经我对彭亨州马华坚持，就算少一个州议席也不重新接纳（或何启文所谓的“解冻”）丹那拉打州議員何业嘉成为马华议员的立场感到鼓舞。这种不畏的立场，才显得马华是一个重纪律、显党纲的政治平台。不过这个印象过后就因为蔡细历的草裙舞蒙上了阴影，严重破坏了马华的形象，如果马华会长理事会或纪律委员会不采取果断的决定，让事情得出一个结论，以后定然还有更多类似恐吓跳槽的勒索事件，马华的内讧只会无日无夜的延续下去。

我们看到历史上也不乏跳槽的著名人物。但是真正跳槽的并不是他们的躯体，而是跟随他们的政治理念和思想学说。他们寻求发挥他们学说的平台。把秦国改造为战国时代超级强国的公孙鞅，出生于卫国，前期在魏国从事政治工作，但是真正重用他的是秦国君主嬴渠梁。苏秦，合纵对抗政策的提倡者，在燕国获得重用，他本身是周王国人。范惟，秦国远交近攻外交策略的发明人，曾经是魏国的低级官员。还有很多诸如张仪、乐毅、吴起、孙膑等都是带着他们的政治理念投奔他国，而不是以宰相的宝座为他们的目标。他们当中很多也不是宰相甚至政府高级官员，只是君主的客卿（类似幕僚）。

比较和今日的政治青蛙，其中有认为副议长的职位不到喉而跳槽寻求更上一层楼、有些则认为没有部长职就不足以发挥作用。他们说出以上谬论作为跳槽的凭借，证明他们忽略历史、欺骗民众。用意就是为了掩盖贪婪的欲望。

我国两线制正处在酝酿的关头，此时此刻政治立场在权位、利益前面显得多么的无力。为杜绝青蛙政治，各个政党是时候重审个别的政治理念和路线。52年过去，无论执政党或反对党都没有重新审核创党至今的宗旨和目标，它们是否仍符合现今人民的物质和精神要求？是否仍然和现有的国际时势接轨？现在是时候开启引擎来反思。正确的政治路线辅以适当的政治教育是杜绝贪婪的青蛙最有效的方法。严明的党纪、严谨的党员招收将有助减少跳槽事件的发生。政党应该重质不重量，政党从权威政治体制转换为理念路线体制已经是一个无可逆转的步伐，越早转型可以帮助政党取得制高点，更容易获得人民的信任。

让我们拒绝跳槽，拒绝青蛙！

Batang Ai, no surprise at all

DAP Sarawak leaders were in Batang Ai yesterday to show our support for the PKR on polling day. We went day before dawn in order to reach Batang Ai early. Sibu team reached there earlier , at around 9:40 am and we went straight to one of the polling station which was a few kilometer from Lubok Antu town. We saw long queue waiting outside the polling centre which was quite abnormal. We talked to a few voters who told us that they have voted already and when asked which party did they choose, they answer without hesitation "memang BN".

We then asked them "ada duit kah?". Some turned away while one woman told me "ngadai duit" but her companion gave her away saying "sepulu aja untuk belanja". I told them that that can not be true because money seems to flow freely in this by election but they kept their mouth shut then.

I told Law Hui Ung, the special assistance to Wong Ho Leng, that the majority would at least be 1000 and above which he agrees readily. He told me that the people gathered there were very suspicious of our group of outsiders and some of them were taking our photos as well.

Our state chairman, who lined up with the other voters jokingly told us he wanted to vote as well. But he and 2 other guys presence were immediately been noticed by some of the voters there and told them " Are you guys making a mistake? You guys are not suppose to vote here." Ho Leng then told me "David, your rocket t-shit is selling our identity away." But I knew that the BN's guys there already notice us before we enter the compound and they do know the outsiders from the locals.

Anyway, we did meet up with our Kuching comrades who were led by our state secretary in Lubok Antu town and we proceed to visit a few other polling centres around Lubok Antu town. At SMK Batang Ai, we were told that 70% of the voters had voted although it was only 12:45pm. That reinforced my believe that the BN 3M (machinery, man power and money) are running smoothly and that the margin of BN's victory would further be increased.

Something note mentioning here is that a few PKR's MPs were at Lubok Antu and joined us in our ride to the polling centres. But not many Batang Ai folks even recognise them at all and they presence were most obviously been ignored by the BN campaigners. But they were the darling of the local media though who surrounded them for their views about the by election in Batang Ai. They were quick to respond that the circumstances and political landscape here is totally different from the peninsular Malaysia.

We then went back to the sleepy town of Lubok Antu at around 1:30pm as the heat, thirst and hunger were catching up on us. There we met James Masing, the chairman of Party Rakyat Malaysia, whose gang of around 12-15 were at the same food stall which we intended to visit. James Masing seen relax and they were still there after we left which shows that they were in no hurry and must be confidence of a victory.

The outcomes of the Batang Ai election did not surprise us at all. Like i said in my last posting here, the results are expected and the people have made their decision. It is their chioce (under any undue influence?) and that was what matter in Batang Ai. The rest of Sarawakians have to come to their sense that "money does matter" and it is money that makes the BN in Sarawak.

The historic debate-the first of its kind in the history of Sarawak-the press labeled it as 307 Debate-between the MP for Bintulu and the Chairman of the BN Backbenchers' Club, Dato Sri Tiong King Sing and the publicity secretary of DAP Sarawak, Mr. David Wong, was held on the 7th of March 2009 at the Bintulu Chinese Chamber of Commerce.

In the run up to the debate, there was much anticipation by the general public as well as the politicians from the political divide. The Chinese Print media were more than helpful in publicizing the event with much front page coverage and even with details of the two debaters were not left uncovered.

The whole thing started with the political crisis in the state of Perak where the BN wrest away the duly elected PR government by using what we called the "political frogs" (defectors from the PR) on the 4th of Feb. 2009. That was actually just after the Chinese Lunar New Year and the self-proclaimed government by the BN took control of the state of Perak when the deputy PM, Dato Seri Najib, took the defectors from the PR to have an audience with the sultan of Perak. The Sultan of Perak refused the request of the Menteri Besar（Chief Minister)to dissolved the state assembly of Perak to pave way for fresh election to solve the political crisis based on his "interview" with the 3 defected PR's state assembly members.

Then in the central region of Sarawak, a town called Bintulu, its MP at the dinner function of one of the Chinese Association's dinner on the 8th 0f Feb., launched an attack on the DAP and the PR for what he said was "double standard" in dealing with the handicapped persons (oh, by the way, one of the defectors, Mdm Hee-DAP suffers from Polio）。He said that while the PR has always self-proclaimed to be the guidance of the less fortunate in the Parliament, their actions are a far cry when it comes to Mdm Hee.

I responded to his allegation in a press conference in Sibu and told him that he has twisted the whole thing around as it was Mdm Hee who have acted against the wishes of the Perakian as they voted (54%) for the PR and entrusted their mandate on the PR government. Furthermore, the pR government has implemented the policies in their election pledges such as the allocation of 1000 hectares of state land to the Chinese Independence Schools, the issuing of perpetual land titles, the granting of state land to the less fortunate in the state etc etc. I questioned Dato Seri Tiong on his stand on morality and democracy and told him that the BN has lost its basic integrity by robbing the people of Perak their constitutional right to choose their own government.

Then there were a daily crash on the Chinese print media between Dato Seri Tiong and myself until I challenged him foe a debate. It was almost forgone conclusion that Dato Seri Tiong would decline my challenge as the BN in Sarawak has always refused to face the opposition on matters that really matter to the people. But everyone was surprised when Dato Seri Tiong accepted my invitation for an open debate. He asked me to go to Bintulu while leaving the date of the debate to me. I responded that 307 (the eve of the political tsunami in 2008) and then the rest would be arranged by Dato Seri.

Many people called and said that they do not believe the debate would be possible as even a moderator would not be easy to seek in such a highly charged debate between the BN and the DAP. But they were surprised once again when Dr. Oh Ei Sun, a well learnt (double PhD. degrees) and well respected educationist and current affair analyst accepted the challenge even though he has live TV shows lined up for him.

The Stage (photo above) was set, a small auditorium in the Bintulu Chinese Chamber of Commerce that can housed 500 was chosen by Dato Seri. Although the general public urged the organizer to change the venue because of the anticipated turn ups on the day, it was not entertained by the organizer (representative of Dato Seri). Too bad, I have no say and have to go along with it.

With the approaching D-day, the debate became the centre of attention, coffee shops talks were are geared to it while the press and media gave it all they can to make it lives up to its expectation.

So, did the debate lives up to the expectation? Would it become a wrestling match between the supporters of both camps? Would there be personal attack by both debaters? Would there be any unexpected last minute bombshells revelation by any camp or both the camps? Would there be unexpected last minute cancellation? Who would win the historic debate?

黃培根：絕不輕敵

（砂拉越•詩巫）雖然辯論會在即，強敵當前，但完全沒有辯論經驗的行動黨砂州委員會宣傳秘書黃培根，還是信心十足，因為他深信對的錯不了，錯的對不了！

黃培根曾於2001年州選、2004年國選、2006年州選、2008年國選披行動黨戰袍出戰。選舉前的選民集會，累積他豐富的演講經驗，不過，他卻不曾參加過辯論會。

3月7日首度踏上辯論會場，黃培根的對手是以敢怒敢言見稱的民都魯區國會議員拿督斯里張慶信。黃培根說，此次是他的處女辯論會。唯他並不因此緊張。反之，很高興張慶信的應邀。

“辯論是民主最基本東西，畢竟一些民生課題必須透過辯論，才能讓選民看得、聽得更清楚。因為在辯論會上，辯論者可以現場提出疑問，另一方需即時給予解答。”

目前修讀倫敦大學法律系的黃培根今早受詢時說，此次辯論非兒戲，他絕不輕敵。

認真看待此次辯論會的黃培根表示，除了心理準備，他已收集一些相關資料。“畢竟第一次辯論，我要做些準備。辯論與演講不同，辯論的時間有限，且胥視臨場反應。”

詢及收集甚麼資料時，黃培根說，此次辯論的是政治人物道德觀問題，為此，有關霹靂變天、政治家、專家、普羅大眾、政黨領袖的評論、言論都是資料，當中以各階層民意最重要。

黃培根指出，不論這場辯論誰勝誰負，或者最后分不出勝負，但至少讓選民看出真相。行動黨有許多人有意到民都魯出席是場辯論會，但基於時間、交通等問題，可能並不是所有支持者都會到場。若時間許可，該黨主席黃和聯應該會帶隊到民都魯。“我們不想勞民傷財，民都魯當地也有行動黨人。無論如何，主席說過，所有的行動黨黨員都是我的后盾。”

辯論會料熱爆
民眾應趁早入場

（砂拉越．民都魯）307辯論會讓民都魯熱到爆，本報頻接讀者詢問，是否可預先取得入場券。

民都魯區國會議員拿督斯里張慶信與行動黨黃培根的辯論會，比預料中更熾熱。距辯論會尚有3天，目前幾乎已成市民碰面的第一個見面話題，大家都說值得出席聆聽。

不過，許多民眾擔憂屆時太多人出席，現場過於擁擠，後來者將不得其門而入。

一些對政治感興趣的民眾表示，為了不錯過這場辯論會，他們將於當天提早2至3小時進入會場。

本報向負責現場安排工作的張慶信服務中心工作人員瞭解，現場容納500名觀眾已算滿座，目前他們正在考慮是否爆滿後就不再允許後來者進入，以免造成現場出現過於擁擠現象。

不接受預定座位
場地可容納500人

（砂拉越．民都魯）307張黃辯論會現場只限500人入場，為公平起見，座位先到者先得，不接受預定也不特別保留給任何一政黨黨員。

民進黨基杜弄區部署理主席江紹輝受本報記者詢及時指出，堪稱砂州政壇一大突破的307張黃辯論會，顯然已成了中區人民的一大焦點。為確保辯論會進展順利，有關場地的各方面籌備工作已在進行。

“這次場地是由張慶信一方負責，場地將低調佈置，將會加強保安，嚴謹看待現場的治安和出席者安全。”

他披露，為迎接這場辯論會，工作隊伍的初步討論結果，限定場內只能容納500人進場，以免場面失控；座滿後禮堂大門將會關閉。

江紹輝說，為公平起見，將不接受預定位子的做法，除前兩排的位子預留予社會領袖外，其餘的坐位皆公開予公眾，先到先坐。此外，入場者不被允許攜帶食物、廣泉水及具危險的物品。

為防不愉快事件發生，辯論會當天除有警方和交警駐守在現場範圍維持秩序外，也將安排後備軍協助。

江紹輝也說，這次的辯論會必吸引雙方的支持者到來助陣，為避免發生不愉快事件，他勸請各造以和為貴，盡可能遵守現場的條規，辯論會上彼此不分輸贏，所以支持者也必須心平氣和地接受辯論結果。

他指出，只要有興趣的人士都可以入場，早到場的人士就能找到好位子。基於場地外的泊車位有限，他建議出席者共車到場。

有關進一步的詳情和規定，他預料總負責人包章文上議員將會在近日內做出公佈；他籲請欲出席者多關注。

胡逸山任主持人

（民都魯、詩巫）備受矚目的307朝野辯論會，已敲定由著名學者，亦是大馬前神童胡逸山博士主持，為砂州難得一見的政治辯論會再添賣點！

負責物色主持人的上議員包章文今日受本報記者詢問時證實，在國內外頗具盛名的著名時評人胡逸山博士，已經應允為3月7日的辯論會任主持人。

他透露，辯論細則將由胡逸山向張黃兩人接洽后方決定，包括辯論的主題及辯論模式等。

包章文表示，為公平起見，在邀請主持人時，必須考慮到主持人的背景，即非政治人物，也沒有政黨背景，方能讓人民信服。為能物色到合適的主持人，包章文可說是絞盡腦汁，最終才找到去年馬華黨選期間，曾主持馬華前副總會長拿督林祥才和馬華現任署理總會長拿督斯里蔡細歷政治辯論會的胡逸山。

另一方面，黃培根今午受詢時表示，他尚未接獲主持人人選已敲定的正式通知，但他對張慶信邀請到胡逸山擔任主持人感到十分滿意。

“我很高興，也希望這場辯論會能順利進行。”

RM 100 per signature?

There are rumor in town that certain activists are giving our cold cash of RM 100 to each applicant who joins a certain political party as instructed by them. The news was that the persons behind are actually some corporate figures who are trying to buy some "political insurance" in the wake of the political uncertainty in the country. I was not a bit surprise by the rumor as this is the norm rather than the exception in Malaysia. Many corporate figures are involved in politicking so as to protect their own interests as in a less than democratic society of ours, politics and business go hand in hand together. Many would say that is Asia, just look at Taiwan, the ex-president Chen is now in the lock up as the prosecutors dig out more evidents of corrupt practises, mis-appropriation of public funds and out-right abuses by Chen's families and cronies.

Certain leaders use the tactic of using the number game when they apply to join a new political party to show how much support and influence they have and how many followers they have.They came with a motive, a political motive that was not to serve but to lobby for a certain position or promises that are self-serving. They would deliver speeches, some less than compassionate, to the "recruited" members and the press, of course. Some well known politicians would be invited to grace the occasion and the highlight would of course be the handling over of the appication forms in the tens of thousand. In actual fact, these "recruited" members are paid to sign on the dotted line and were invited to dinner with pocket money to spend of course.

Looking at the UMNO assemblies in the run off to their general assembly in march 2009, the meetings are marred by physical violence's,money politics backstabbing and what not. The problem is Umno being the backbone of the Barisan Nasional, the ruling coalition in Malaysia since the birth of Malaysia, the party's position is key to the government's position. Whoever elected as the President of Umno is automatically the PM of the country and the second man is also the deputy PM and so on. Thus, the jostling for position is not only normal, it is the survival game for many politicians and their cronies.

So coming back to the RM 100 per signature, how many are not willing to sign in exchange for the cold cash? They are playing along the political line just like the politicians and their cronies are, the only difference may be it is a token amount compared with the big guys in the big party. But in the end, everyone is content that they get what they want (or do they) and who cares what happen tomorrow, maybe and just maybe, there is another show that the poor guys would be invited to the dinner with some pocket money to spare, actually the more the merrier!

恐种族课题使国家陷入混乱

话說北京奧運前夕, 在北京大飯店的5星級廚房里,四大明星在車大炮討論誰最重要,誰最大.
各說各的重要,各說各的偉大,總之沒有一個肯服輸. 于是其中一個就提議 “讓人來做主吧! 明天奧運是全世界最大的盛會,誰的命字被提起,它就是 “老大”. 全部在場都同意.

第2天, 每 個 都 忙 到 下 午6:30 才 透 過 氣 來. 總 于 在 晚 上7:50 的 時 候, 整 個 酒 店 人 去 樓 空, 它 們 就 聚 在 電 視 機 前 一 起 觀 看 奧 運 開 幕 禮. 它 們 都 忘 了 昨 天 的 賭 搏.

終 于 等 到 了 開 幕, 每 個 都 沉 醉 在 開 幕 的 節 目 里. 突 然, 銀 幕 上 出 現 了 一 對 男 女, 整 個 “鳥 巢” 都 靜 了 下 來. 男 的 歌 手 開 腔 高 唱 奧 運 主 題 曲“ 你 和 我”... “YOU and ME” ... “油 and 米?”

DPM, "come back to the Barisan Nasional's fold."

Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak made a plea to the Chinese and Indian communities in Permatang Pauh - come back to the Barisan Nasional's fold.He told them to reject the opposition and vote for Umno's Arif Shah Omar Shah in the Aug 26 by-election.And he had one more word of counsel - do not gamble with your children's future by supporting the opposition candidate who had been making false promises.He promised that the BN would champion the Indian and Chinese communities' cause in the constituency as they had been neglected by the opposition.

My comment: If the BN is fair and just in its policies to all the races in Malaysia, then Najib should not have to worry and promised the Indian and Chinese communities that the BN will champion their causes. The people are not blind and deaf and they know the track records of the BN, afterall BN has been the government since time in memorial.The by election of Permatang Pauh is not about Anwar or the PKR or the BN, it is the decision of the century whereby the voters of Permatang Pauh has to make the stand not only for themselves but for the 27 millions Malaysian as to whether Malaysia should remains an authoritarian regime (BN) or we want a bipartisan political landscape such as that of the US, the Aussie, the Brition and the majority of the G7.Malaysian wait in anticipation of the bipartisan system and never before(pre March 08) has it been possible or even thought of that the day of the bipartisan would become a reality. Now is the time and may be it is now or never in a sense (for Anwar and the Pekatan Rakyat).

May be this by election is also a referendum on the BN's fuel prices hike on the 4th of June 2008. The people are angry that while Malaysia and Petronas makes millions everyday from the oil export, the people are suffering in vain. Malaysian have gone on the streets to protest the high pump prices since the government announced the price hike but the government is unmoved to the suffering of the people and businesses.

I would predict that the BN government will announce the price cut just before the 26th of August because of the by election. But what we want is the pre June 4th fuel prices. The current world cruel oil price is hovering around USD 113 per barrel while it was USD 125 at the beginning of June, so it means that the government has no reason whatsoever not to revert its fuel prices to pre-JUNE 4th level, i.e petrol at RM 1.92/L and diesel at RM1.58/L.

People wait impatiently for the change of the federal government

These 2 days have been the most chaotic for the PM as well as all for the BN men, many of them are waking up to the shock reality that they could lose control of the central government for the first time since the BN's formation decades ago.

When Yong Teck Lee dropped the bomb shell on the 18th June 2008 that his party's MP would either call or support the none-confidence vote against the PM when Parliament resumes on the 30th June 2008. The BN scrambled to cover its bases and held the BN's supreme council meeting the next day in Kuala Lumpur with all eyes on the East Malaysian leaders. Of course, all of them condemned Yong for his "betrayal" and pledged their loyalty and support behind the PM.

Whether Yong's move could trigger the domino effect from the other BN parties is yet to be seen, but the effect of his move has triggered the the imagination of most Malaysian who waited impatiently for the BN's downfall after the latest fuel prices hike and the ricing cost of all goods and services triggered by the high pump prices.

I have on two occasion went to the press calling for the SUPP, another BN component party with 6 MPs, to withdraw itself from the BN and let the Pakatan Rakyat (PR)takes over. The SUPP grassroots and supporters have been very receptive of the call as they were all taken by Anwar promises that the PR would give 20% oil royalty to Sarawak and Sabah and also the PR will reverse the pump prices immediately once it took over the administration of the country.

Many BN supporters called us up to enquire when would "D Day" comes. At least the ground(BN support base) is shaking and the following days and weeks would be much crucial as Yong hinted that there are more from Sabah that would follow his lead. At least Anwar is optimistic that he shall form the PR governmnet before 16 Septmeber, the Malaysia Day, and that would bring history in an interesting and meaningful pespective, wouldn't it?

Damage control, the BN's ways?

Now that the people have spoken loud and clear against the horrifies fuel price hike announced by the PM on the 4Th June 2008, the governments are busy putting out bush fires(rallies and protests) across the country, from Kuala Lumpur to Sabah and Sarawak.

Days ago, the PM said he can't commit himself that he would not raise the fuel prices in the near future as the international cruel oil price is too volatile. But yesterday, he announced that the fuel prices would not increase this year. So which statement is to be taken by the people as "truthful"? Malaysian in general have lost the confidence in the BN government and this could be the most serious setback of the PM, serious enough for the people to call for his replacement, people such as Tun Dr. M and many UMNO leaders are all very vocal in this matter.

When the heat is unbearable, where and whom did the PM turn to? Sabah and Sarawak of course as these two states have more than enough MPs to topple the BN government. Anwar, the de facto leader of the PKR had on many occasions stated that he has enough number of MPs to form the next government and Sabah was mentioned as the key to the BN's defection if indeed what he said was true.

So the PM had to visit Sabah and brought them 6 presents including a RM 1.0 billion special PM's development fund. Then came Sarawak, whose CM said Sarawak should get the same or more from the federal government as sabah. The PM came to Kuching on the 10th June and announced among others the RM1.0 billion fund for the state also.

Now that the MPs from Sabah and Sarawak are been "bought" by the promise, and i do mean promise, the PM can at least have a few restful nights until the heat of the UMNO general assembly catches up with him again. But with the latest hike of fuel prices, political analysts feel that the road to UMNO's presidency is long and winding for Abdullah as many of the UMNO grassroots are angry over the fuel price hike which was the steepest in history.

No damage control is sufficient to cover the damages done by the BN's fuel price hike. The ordinary folks just wonder "how are we going to survive?" and the answer certainly lies deep in the chests of all Malaysian regardless of religious and cultural background. Malaysian have never been more united before and that the PM must take note and take care.

Time for the SUPP to withdraw from the BN

It is time for the SUPP to withdraw itself from the BN
The people of Sarawak generally agree that the SUPP must make the decision to withdraw itself from the BN after the latest developments that affect the lives of all the Sarawakian.

As a political party, the SUPP should put the interests of the people first before its leaders’ interest or its own political interests in the BN. When the people face difficulties, the SUPP should put its stand down in favor of the people. But we did not see any respond at all from the SUPP’s leadership with the latest price hike of rice and fuels as if these are of no important to them at all.

Abdullah announced on Wednesday that the pump price for petrol would increase by 78 sen - from RM1.92 per litre to RM2.70. The price of diesel increased by a whopping 63.3 percent - from RM1.58 per litre to RM2.58. (Attached herewith is a table of oil prices of other oil producingcountries for comparison)

The fuel prices increase came almost immediately after rice price hikes. The people just can't accept the reason given by the government that the latest increase in the fuel price was to subsidise food and other items. Furthermore the BN government has not shown where the 56 billions subsidies it provided has been gone as Petronas has never shown any transparency about its accounts apart from the audited balance sheet and P&L account. Malaysian have the right to know why the state oil giant needs to be compensated by the government when Malaysia is a net oil exporter and when Petronas makes billions with the high international cruel oil prices hitting record high at USD 136 per barrel.

The latest move to increase the fuel price and rice has completely contradicted BN's proclamation of providing "security, peace and prosperity" as contained in its last election manifesto.

Malaysiakini reported that “Sapp president Yong Teck Lee warned the PM of serious political fallout for the BN and the party's Youth wing went called for the resignation of the prime minister and his cabinet.”

The SUPP and other East Malaysian BN component parties should withdraw now from the BN and let the Pakatan Rakyat take over in order to save this country from being ruined. After all, Abdullah and Najib and the BN should be brought down for failing to manage the nation's wealth and resources prudently.

The latest price hike of the petrol had shown how Sarawak has been sold out by the state BN when we produce 1/3 of the oil and gas in Malaysia. The second finance minister has told us that with every 1 USD increment in the international cruel oil market, Malaysia will enjoy a windfall or RM 250, 000, 000! That proves that the present cruel oil price of some USD 136 will give Malaysia additional RM 17, 500, 000, 000.00 compared to the year 2006. The fact that the federal government only pays the state 5% royalty on oil and gas since the 70s is hard for us to swallow when the state is considered one of the poorest states in the country.

The people of Sarawak would not have imagined that this is what they would be getting for supporting the BN in the last election. The BN won 30 out of 31 of the parliamentary seats in the March 8th general election and more importantly, that magic number of 30 is sufficient to topple the BN government. The Sarawak BN component parties must show to the people that they are worthy of their support by withdrawing themselves from the BN and they can do so without having to join the Pakatan Rakyat.

It is time for the SUPP to decide where its loyalty lies, “to the people of Sarawak or to its BN master?” “All your supporters and your grassroots and Sarawakian are watching and time is running out”.

Shahrir: Prepare for another general election

In the wake of the shocking news that former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had quit Umno, a senior party leader said that the country could face another general elections.

Shahrir Samad, the minister for domestic trade and consumer affairs, said Mahathir's surprise move could trigger a flurry of resignations from the party that could force Abdullah to hold fresh general elections.

Abdullah is facing the tougest decision as to whether to call for a fresh mandate just 7 weeks after the March 8 GE. He would have to consider the chance of securing a majority or he could just wait to see the effect of Tun Mahatir's show-hand in the days ahead. No matter what the decision is, it seems that Abdullah's days as the President of UMNO and the PM is numbered. Mahatir can't even wait until the UMNO's general assembly to be held in December to toppled his hand-pick succesor surprised many.

Abdullah doesn't have much time left, either he goes for broke or be thrown out by Mahatir. Either course is dificult for Abdullah as he is facing the man who formed the New Umno and the man that ruled Malaysia for 22 years and the man who handpicked him as the succesor.With the March 8 election disaster, Abdullah lost all his credibility and political leverage against an opponent such as Mahatir.

Anwar would have the leverage now but the pressure must be on him as his earlier announcement that the PR would become the next government on or before 16th September this year had thrown the UMNO offguard. Now the ball is in his court as well as the old saying goes "when the old tree tumbles, the monkeys would jump". Now the old tree is almost rootless and where would the monkeys jump? The new tree in the name of Pakatan Rakyat or the new tree in the name of Mahatir?

The political earth quake in the scale of 8 had hit Abdullah and the BN, it tests both Abdullah and Anwar political skewness as who would secure the throne in weeks ahead.

Info minister rethinking live Dewan telecast

KUALA LUMPUR: Information Minister Datuk Shabery Cheek is thinking of scrapping the live telecast of the proceedings in Dewan Rakyat after the circus-like atmosphere in the first sitting of Parliament.
“That is the problem with live TV. People tend to play to the gallery. I will have to seriously reconsider whether to continue, or to stop it,” he said at the Parliament lobby on Wednesday.
Shabery said he would not allow the proceedings to be telecast live in full until the Opposition MPs start behaving like “first class MPs”.
“They act like third class MPs, which was proven today, and I feel that to broadcast it in full would be a waste of taxpayers' money. Maybe some people like to see the circus, but Parliament is not a circus,” he said.
Shabery said he was disappointed with Wednesday’s proceedings.
“What was supposed to be more substantial about Parliament - democracy and the people - has been sidelined.
“If I extend the live broadcast, then it would be like this (chaotic) all the time,” he said.


Doesn't the rakyat have the right to know how their elected reps. are doing in the house? If it is a circus, then let them know what kind of jokers that they elected to the House. To stop the live telecast would not change the quality of these jokers in the House while the live telecast would show these jokers how well they look on live TV.
The BN government has not learnt anything from the march 8 general election and thought that it controls everything including the state-run media. However, if it refuses to let the live telecast of parliament session, then it will have to deal with another political revolt from the rakyat. The Abdullah administration is shaky as it is now and god knows what will happen in the near future.

Sarawak, where is the road ahead?
In the run-up to recently concluded general election, the question has been addressed by our speakers repeatedly since day one of the meet-the-people session in Sibu. The crowd at our ceramahs responded overwhelmingly to the campaign theme of the national DAP "Just Change It" and my persoanl campaign theme "Change you can Believe In". The results on the 8th March told us that the people could not decide where the road ahead is as Sarawak DAP only won the Bandar Kuching seat and lost the other 6 seats that we contested.

Do we blame them? Or rather can we blame them? Both answers lie in the negative as the voters are the boss and they decide where they want to go and who to put their trust on. We can talk about money politics and all the dirty tactics that the BN poured on the people and the threats that were threw at the people, but it was still the decision of the voters or absenteeism (many did not turn-up) on polling day that matters.

The day after polling and when the results finally came through with the oppositions taking control of 5 states (Penang, Selangor, Perak, Kedah and Kelantan) and the Federal Territory, angry opposition supporters in Sarawak, in particularly in the central region of Sarawak, began cursing their fellow Sarawakian for voting against the wishes of most other fellow Malaysian in the west. The BN actually lost the popular vote in the west with only 49.65% of the total votes while the opposition secured 50.23% of the votes. The reality set in as the oppositions broke the BN’s 2/3 majority in the Parliament which made history and even more importantly they have secured the support of all the races in Malaysia, from the Malays to the Indians and even more particularly the Chinese.

Malaysian were taken aback by the news and it took them severally days to digest that they were not dreaming at all especially with the swearing-in of the Chief Minister of Penang that were broadcasted on RTM. Many cried when they saw the DAP’s secretary-general on TV, they were looking at history and they finally realized that 42 years after the formation of the DAP and after decades of unwavering support, they were able to see the fruits of the political struggle for a Malaysian-First Malaysia based on equality and fairness for all.

Chinese in particularly now see the wind of change and finally realized that their future in this country has never been so secured. They were not only angry at the BN’s Chinese based parties for their failure to stand up for what is fair and just and were particularly felt threatened by the extremists in UMNO for their verbal and physical aggression against the non-bumi in Malaysia in the last 10 years.

Sarawakian now are been thrown the ultimatum, where do we go from here? The future is in our own hands and the road ahead has been charted by the March 8th election. It is for us to grasp the opportunity of “change” and for us to walk down the path of “change” in the coming state election.

Malaysia also needs a vibrant civil society and an independent media. Without these two pillars of democracy, reform would not be possible. But we first need a strong opposition to start with, which we have achieved in the March 8th general election. Everything seems to be on the right track for the country at the moment and Sarawakian only need to jump on the bandwagon of “change” at the right time, i.e. the next state election.
