柏拉旺选票销毁

砂选举委员会今早在诗巫再也多用途礼堂举行销毁柏拉旺区选票和相关文件的工作。柏拉旺州选区所有的选票，包括邮寄选票，文件和不退筛墨汁一律被烧毁，以杜绝一切弊端的发生。

行动党柏拉旺区州议员黄培根在助理的陪同下全程监督及见证这项焚烧过程。焚烧选票和相关文件是选举的最后一个过程，也印证了第11届砂州选举已经圆满举行。

选举过后选票和相关文件在限定的期限内被销毁，证明了选举是一个神圣和秘密的过程。所有的选票在大选过后都被密封在塑料袋里，并且放置的保安严密的地方。过后在销毁前才在候选人，选举官，警方代表，媒体等见证下在摧毁场地拆开后烧毁。

投票绝对保密

一直以来许多选民对于选举的隐私度存有一定的迷思；民众都担心本身的投选对象会被揭发，所以都抱着战战兢兢的心情去投票，有者甚至受到某些因素的困扰而放弃履行公民义务。其实，投票是绝对保密的，没有人有权利和机会去查看选民把票投给谁。而且最终这些选票全部将被烧毁，根本无迹可寻。

第11届砂州选举，在野党在砂州无法捍卫许多选区，其中最大的一个因素就是投票率低迷，特别是年轻选民的投票率。国家是属于每一位公民的，唯有透过选举机制才能选出国家的领导来引领我们的国家。身为有责任心的大马公民都应该善用这项民主制度来奠定国家的未来。

行动党呼吁所有适龄的年轻人踊跃注册成为选民，在大选的时候履行公民义务，以行动来决定国家的未来。

The Election Commission (SPR) destroyed all the ballot papers, the related documents and also the indelible inks used in the recently concluded state election for the constituency of N.54 Pelawan at the multi-purpose hall in Sibu Jaya today (23/8/2016).

All the candidates or their agents, the police and media were invited to witness the burning of all the used and unused ballot papers and the documents to show that the election process is transparent and the voters’ anonymity is ensured.

The process or the conduct of the election is normally as following:

1)    The voting and counting of votes on polling day,

2)    The petition period-The election petition can be presented to the High Court within 21 days after publication of the election results in the Gazette. If the judge, after conducting a trial, decides the elections to be void, the Election Commission will give notice of a fresh election for the constituency concerned, and

3)    The storage and disposal of election documents- These documents are placed in a special box or boxes and securely sealed in the presence of the candidates’ agents. They are kept for six months or after the expiry of the election petition period in the Returning Officer’s custody.

  

The Returning Officer will store the marked electoral rolls and the counterfoils of the ballot papers. The boxes are only to be opened in cases of petition, under the order of a High Court judge.

After the period of six months or the expiry of the petition period, the Returning Officer, on obtaining permission from the Election Commission, will destroy the ballot papers and documents. The Returning Officer will submit a certificate of disposal to the State Election Officer.

Among all the candidates for the Pelawan constituency in the 11^thSarawak state election, only the Adun of Pelawan, David Wong, was present today together with his personal assiatnt, Mr. Law Hui Ung. They stayed at the site until the whole process was successfully completed to show their utmost respect for the process of the election and to safeguard the ballot papers and the documents are not been tampered with.

The certificate of disposal, Sijil Pemusnahan, was duly signed by the Returning Officer for N. 54 Pelawan, Encik Justani HJ. Joni, and witnessed by the Adun for Pelawan, after the completion of the burning process today.

We hope to put to rest the worry of the voters and urge all the voters to come out to vote in the future and assure them that their votes are totally anonymous. There were many who still have doubt about the secrecy of the voting process and some were even threatened by certain unscrupulous aprties that their choice of candidacy can be traced and thus were discouraged to perform their civil duty to vote.
